NEW CLIENT ALERT: Ocama

Ocama, Dominican Republic

The Villa-Only Retreat Launches on the Dominican Republic’s Untouched Samaná Peninsula

Klima is thrilled to announce the official launch of Ocama, an exclusive villa-only retreat nestled on 35 secluded acres overlooking Rincón Bay, on the Dominican Republic’s peaceful and protected northeastern Samaná Peninsula. Far from the bustling hubs of Punta Cana, Ocama's eight private villas blend contemporary Caribbean architecture with raw natural beauty, offering unparalleled privacy and ultra-personalized service. The autonomy of villa living is paired with hotel amenities including a hands-on concierge, daily housekeeping, room service and the option for private chef-cooked dinners and spa treatments. The villas range from one to three bedrooms, each with a full kitchen and a private pool. In creating Ocama, the aim was to collaborate with nature rather than disrupt it with great care taken to minimize environmental impact.

Sustainability

Coexisting with the incredible natural environment was paramount in creating Ocama. Villas were built using local earth-toned marble quarried just a few miles away, along with sustainably sourced hardwoods handfinished by regional craftsmen. Living green roofs top each villa reducing the need for mechanical cooling and helping the villas blend seamlessly into the jungle canopy. The property is a plastic-free zone, and all organic waste from the kitchen is composted. Ingredients not grown on the property’s small garden are sourced from local farmers, fisherman, and artisans.

F&B

Using the freshest, locally sourced ingredients, Ocama’s chef is available to deliver breakfast, lunch, and dinner to guests’ villas, or down to the beach. For a more celebratory meal, the chef can also come and prepare a multi course dinner in-villa, or even a tasting menu with cocktail and wine pairings. Guests are also welcome to load up on supplies and cook for themselves. If they’d prefer to venture beyond their villas, the Kai Pavilion - Ocama’s gathering space - is available for meals and cocktails. While the chef is happy to create bespoke menus, guests can order a la carte for items like seafood risotto, mofongo with crispy pork belly, light salads with shrimp tartar, and freshly prepared ceviches.

Activities

Ocama's dedicated 24/7 concierge offers personalized recommendations and seamlessly arranges a wide array of activities, both on and off property.

On property:

  • Snorkeling gear is available to borrow

  • Spa treatments - ranging from deep tissue massage to lymphatic drainage, facials to bodyscrubs - can be arranged in-villa or on the beach

  • There are several hiking trails winding through Ocama’s 35 acres

  • Sitting on the beach with a freshly made cocktail and a book can’t be beat

Off property:

  • Seven Hidden Beaches Walking Trail takes you along the beautiful beaches spread along the coast

  • Humpback whale watching (available January 15-March 15)

  • Horseback riding

  • Birding tours to spot local birds like Tricolored Heron, Hispaniolan Woodpecker, and Black-Crowned Palm Tanager

  • Ziplining

Samaná + the local area

Ocama sits at the very tip of the Samaná peninsula, between two nationally protected areas - Cabo Samaná and Cabo Cabròn - in Las Galeras. The charming town is a 20-minute drive from the property and has a rich history, having been home to indigenous people known as Ciguaÿos, local “criollos” (a mix of indigenous, African, and European), freed enslaved peoples from the Americas and the Caribbean, pirates and colonizers from Spain, France, and England. In addition to the beautiful nature and beaches, there are also favorite local haunts like Raquel’s Bar on Playa Grande, Coco Fabuloso, or Chef Mirko’s.

How to get there

The closest airport is Las Americas (SDQ) which has direct flights from many US cities including New York, Miami, Boston and Atlanta. From there, it is a three- to three-and-a-half-hour drive or 30 minutes via helicopter. Ocama can arrange car or helicopter transfers, or guests can rent a car.
