The Klima Edit - June

Croque Monsieur at Wainwright’s Tavern, Hassler Roma, Castiglione Ugolino at Tenuta di Murlo

What’s new?

  • Wainwright’s Tavern is launching weekend brunch starting June 20th! The menu will range from local East Coast oysters with mignonette sauce, a Little Gem Caesar, and a Waldorf Salad to more breakfast-leaning items like a Yogurt Parfait, Pineapple and Coconut Pancakes, an omelet and a Crab Cake Benedict. At a preview brunch last weekend, they hosted a reading from Nicola Klaus from both The Nanny Diaries and her new book, The Best We Could Hope For, followed by a Q&A led by writer Alix Strauss. Wainwright’s Tavern plans to continue its speaker series in the fall: watch this space.

Happenings & Trends:

  • Our Favorite Rooftops for Summer:

    • In late summer, the Hassler Roma will open the new Oscar’s bar on their roof. The bar will have an elegant, old school vibe with vintage silver serving pieces, classic cocktails, and of course, the best view over the Roman skyline.

    • Le Grill on the 8th floor of the Hotel de Paris Monte-Carlo has a panoramic view of Monaco all the way to the Italian Coast (and a Michelin star).

    • Lucie Kittel of Domino Travel recommends the new Eagle Bar at the Chancery Rosewood, saying it's "spectacular!"

  • Shoulder Season trips for fall

    • Barbados has a great location below the hurricane belt making it an ideal spot for fall weekend getaway. There’s no chicer hideaway than Cobblers Cove with its memorable pink and white striped umbrellas and towels and its interiors by British design house, Soane. This October will reveal the refurbishments to the Great House.

    • The crowds have dispersed from Greece by mid-October, but the weather is lovely and the sea is warm. Bliss Travel can design a perfect itinerary joining a few days in Athens (when it’s not stiflingly hot walking around) with popular destinations like Santorini and Paros and more under the radar places like Kavala in the North and Geroliminus on the Peloponnese.

    • Similarly, Italy is lovely in the fall. See Italy focuses on authentic experiences that go beyond the typical itinerary, such as setting out in the morning in Abruzzo with a wildlife biologist to spot wolves in the wild, a Vespa tour in Liguria through forgotten villages like Apricale and Dolceacqua, or harvesting grapes on the slopes of Mt. Etna. Tenuta di Murlo’s ivy-covered Torre villa - a former medieval watchtower - turns a beautiful crimson in the fall. Umbria is also buzzing with festivals, from the October Eurochocolate festival in Perugia (transforming the medieval city into an open-air chocolate factory) to the October and November white truffle fairs in Gubbio, Città di Castello, & Valtopina where you can ) where you can try fresh truffles, wild boar, and local cheeses.

  • It’s time to book festive travel! Lucie Kittel from Domino Travel recommends booking your holiday trips now, citing ample availability at popular destinations. Picture…

    • A family holiday in a three-bedroom villas at Ocama in the Dominican Republic, waking up Christmas morning to an uninterrupted view of the Caribbean sea and a breakfast spread set up on your shaded porch.

    • Holiday shopping in Paris and making a home-away-from-home at Maison Villeroy, the discreet former mansion-turned hotel just a few minutes’ walk from the Champs Elysee.

    • Having the whole extended family celebrate the holidays in a literal castle at Castiglione Ugolino at Tenuta di Murlo in Umbria. The 10-bedroom villa has its own pool, hot tub, and chapel and the property can set up special holiday dinners in the chapel or dining areas for the group. Guests can even go truffle hunting to make their meals extra memorable.

    • For an adventurous group, High End Journeys can book a custom journey down the Nile on the private Seba yacht. With eight bedrooms, a plunge pool, indoor and outdoor dining areas, and a private Egyptologist, it is the best way to experience Egypt.
