Palm Court at Hassler Roma; Wainwright’s Tavern; Tenuta di Murlo
What’s new?
The Hassler Roma has unveiled its new Jacques Garcia-designed Palm Court garden. The idyllic space has been transformed into a fresh, elegant oasis in the heart of Rome. Understated green and white striped sofas sit amongst Roman statuary and feathery palms, and the space is anchored by a white marble bar. To bring this vision to life, the Hassler prioritized collaborating with like-minded, local Italian artisans like Colleoni Roberto & C - a Bergamo-based upholstery atelier that, like the Hassler itself, has been family-owned and operated for generations.
Wainwright’s Tavern is now open seven days a week! The new Upper East Side restaurant is now serving dinner every night, as well as Saturday and Sunday brunch. Keep an eye out for special Tuesday night offerings this summer, ranging from farm stand dinners with the best produce from Long Island to oyster experts and BBQ nights.
Tenuta di Murlo is opening its 10th villa this fall! This villa will have its own mini spa. The original structure dates back to the middle ages and is currently being reimagined into a luxury villa. The outbuilding that was formerly the stables will become its own spa with an indoor pool (and an outdoor pool), a hammam, and a sauna.
Happenings & Trends:
Fall Getaways
We’re in peak summer, but if you’re looking for a long weekend getaway in the fall, here are some top choices:
Located below the hurricane belt in Barbados, Cobblers Cove is the perfect weekend getaway. Direct flights can get you on the beach for an afternoon Cobblers Cooler (their notoriously potent rum punch with watermelon, banana, and pineapple). October will see the final stage of refurbishments to the property’s Great House.
Just 15 minutes from the Cancun airport is NIZUC, a 29-acre property known for its modern Mayan-inspired architecture, ESPA spa, and private beach overlooking the world’s second largest barrier reef.
For a Parisian long weekend, Maison Villeroy puts guests in the center of the city’s Golden Triangle, an easy walk to the Champs Elysee, popular restaurants like Le Grand Cafe, and the Eiffel Tower. The apartment-like suites make guests feel at home, and the Michelin-starred restaurant and indoor/outdoor spa remind you you’re in a luxury hotel.
Running to sight see
Walking trumps a car or bus for getting to know a city, but for runners, a well planned jog is a great way to take in the sights (especially in the early morning before it gets hot or busy!). The Hassler offers a unique take on sightseeing with the Archeorunning program. Guests are led on an early-morning jogging tour right from the hotel’s location atop the Spanish Steps by a licensed running trainer, archeologist, and art historian.
Big Events to Note for 2027
The total eclipse will be visible from Egypt on August 2, 2027, and there’s no better spot to watch than aboard the private Seba Nile cruise near Luxor (where the sun will be blocked for over six minutes!).
Italy will be celebrating the 100-year anniversary of the Mille Miglia, a race of historic cars through beautiful places in Italy. SeeItaly can arrange a bespoke visit around the centennial, plus immersive activities like traditional wool weaving in Scanno, visiting historic mansions in Genoa, or sleeping in one of Puglia’s conical Trullo houses.
Must have travel items from luxury travel advisor, Lucie Kittel, founder of Domino Travel
The Derm Institute Anti-Oxidant Hydration Gel Masque. Long-haul flights are incredibly dehydrating, and these have become her secret weapon.
The Max Mara The Cube water-repellent jacket never leaves her suitcase. It's incredibly lightweight but surprisingly warm, and it works just as well for a rainy day exploring a city as it does for a cool evening at dinner.
A folding hand fan, because not every airport has air conditioning and some transfers or outdoor excursions can get very hot. It's one of those small luxuries that makes a huge difference; it weighs almost nothing, takes up virtually no space, and has become a non-negotiable in her purse.
