The Klima Edit - September

What’s New?

  • The old school Martini Lunch is back! Wainwright's Tavern is launching lunch this month with one fun twist: "Mad Men Fridays” featuring their best-selling dirty martini with house-made blue-cheese-stuffed olives. On Fridays at lunch, diners can order a burger and blue martini for $35, or just a blue martini for $16. Sure, you can still order a little gem salad or a Cosi-inspired sandwich (owner Jay Wainwright was the co-founder of the beloved sandwich chain), but how much more fun to start the weekend early and channel your inner Roger Sterling?

  • Whale season is coming to Ocama! Time to book a stay for January-March, when between 5,000 and 7,000 humpback whales come to Samana for breeding and calving. The Samaná Marine Mammal Sanctuary is the primary mating and birthing ground for North Atlantic Humpback Whales, and Ocama’s concierge can set up private whale watching boat excursions with local experts.

Trends and Happenings

  • This autumn, the Hassler Roma will unveil a two-level, 7,534-square-foot travertine spa beneath the Spanish Steps, featuring four treatment rooms, a couple's jacuzzi suite, Finnish and Bio saunas, a steam room, a Kneipp path, an ice room, and a Technogym studio. The subterranean wellness retreat also includes a 42 by 20 foot pool.

  • Fall Foraging

    • It’s mushroom season at Umbria’s Tenuta di Murlo and guests can go on guided foraging hikes through the 18,000-acre property looking for galetti or porcini mushrooms. Bring them along to the fattoria for a cooking class and learn how to make pasta and risotto with the freshly foraged ‘shrooms.

    • Guests at Cayo Resort on Crete’s eastern shore can roam for Cretan Sage (which makes a strong, traditional winter tea), wild fennel (which appears after the first autumn rains), or Stamnagathi (a spiny chicory).

  • Favorite Michelin-stars: There is no shortage of excellent mom-and-pop establishments throughout Europe, but sometimes you just want to treat yourself to a Michelin-starred, sit-down, fancy dinner!

    • When in Rome… go to Imago, on the 6th floor of the Hassler Hotel, newly renovated with an open kitchen and views overlooking the city. Under the creative direction of Executive Chef Andrea Antonini, the restaurant focuses on seasonal, playful reinterpretations of classic Roman and regional Italian dishes.

    • À Paris, tucked in the IYKYK Maison Villeroy, is Trente-Trois, serving French dishes such as poached langoustine with frozen consommé, stuffed squid in tomato sauce, and a farm-raised cheese platter.

    • Coming from Tenuta di Murlo, guests can pop into Perugia for a meal at Ada (led by chef Ada Stifani - the first female chef in the Umbria region to earn a Michelin star!). It’s known for creative plates like tagliatelle with cardoncelli mushrooms and scampi.
